People with learning disabilities are supported to use public transport

What’s the day-to-day job like?

A team manger works closely with the service manager to lead, develop and mentor their staff team through taking person-centred approaches.

You’ll be enthusiastic about leading, developing and maintaining a high-performing team which puts the people we support at the heart of what we do.

In practice, this means you’ll enjoy the challenge of:

  • Ensuring smooth-running operations: e.g. working out staff rotas, ensuring your team know about support plan updates and managing budgets.
  • Promoting staff development: such as ensuring seamless inductions, holding supervision meetings and offering staff training
  • Meeting governance requirements: including our Safeguarding Adults Policy and legal requirements for health and safety.

You’ll also build important connections outside United Response to help people we support to find opportunities in our local communities.

What qualifications or experience does a team manager need?

You’ll need experience in working in a support team, have an NVQ Level 3 in Social Care Management (or be working towards it) and be competent with IT systems.

We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a difference and have experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities and mental health needs. It’s also very important that you’re a good communicator (written and verbal).

If you like mixing things up – this is the job for you! There’ll be different working hours, travel between locations, off-site training, being on-call at times and various shifts (evenings, weekends, sleep-ins and nights).

What training opportunities are available in the role?

You’ll be supported to complete your NVQ Level 3, and team managers will often specialise in areas such as healthy eating and drinking, and positive behaviour support. Opportunities such as our aspiring managers training will help put the rocket boosters on your career.

What hours does this role need from me?

Support work can be a 24-hour/7-day a week role, so our team managers need to be flexible people. Within your contracted weekly hours, either full (37.5) or part time, your hours may vary to suit existing service requirements e.g. doing a weekend or a night shift.

What might I move on to do next?

A team manager position is a springboard for lots of other great roles with us.

Your next step could be a promotion to service manager, with a wider remit and responsibilities, or you could use your skills and experience in a central support role, such as quality assurance or safeguarding.
