Internal Communications Manager

Are you an experienced communications professional with a passion for engaging colleagues, driving organisational change and creating meaningful employee experiences?

At United Response, we’re looking for an Internal Communications Manager to lead the development and delivery of our internal communications strategy, ensuring colleagues across the organisation feel informed, connected and inspired by our mission.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a values driven national charity and play a key role in supporting our Big Lives strategy, championing effective communication, enhancing engagement and helping colleagues understand the impact of their work supporting people with learning disabilities, autism, and mental and physical support needs.

Working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders across the organisation, you’ll lead innovative internal communication initiatives, oversee the continued development of our intranet and digital communication channels, and help foster a culture where colleagues feel empowered, connected and valued.

About the role:

As Internal Communications Manager, you’ll lead on delivering internal communications plans and initiatives across United Response, helping to ensure our colleagues have access to timely, relevant and engaging information.

You’ll work closely with the Senior Strategic Communications Manager and stakeholders across the organisation to develop effective communication strategies, drive engagement campaigns and maximise the impact of our internal communications channels.

You’ll also play a key role in the development and governance of The Hub, our intranet platform, ensuring it remains an accessible, engaging and valuable resource for colleagues across the organisation.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing and delivering internal communications plans that support organisational priorities
  • Leading the ongoing development, governance and improvement of The Hub intranet platform
  • Enhancing internal communication channels to improve colleague engagement and information sharing
  • Creating and delivering high quality content across a range of multimedia formats
  • Using analytics and colleague feedback to continually improve communication effectiveness
  • Supporting organisational campaigns, engagement initiatives and colleague events
  • Providing expert advice to leaders and teams on communication planning, messaging and channels
  • Designing and delivering training and resources for content owners and communication champions
  • Managing and developing the Communications and Engagement Officer
  • Championing digital best practice and supporting the adoption of Microsoft 365 tools across the organisation
  • Supporting the planning and delivery of organisation wide colleague engagement events, including Coffee and Connect

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone who combines excellent communication skills with strategic thinking, creativity and a passion for employee engagement.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Proven experience managing or developing intranet platforms, particularly SharePoint Online
  • Experience delivering internal communications strategies and campaigns
  • Strong understanding of user experience (UX) principles and information architecture
  • Experience developing engaging content across multiple channels and formats
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills
  • Experience using data, analytics and feedback to measure and improve communications
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including SharePoint, Teams and Viva Engage
  • The ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging and accessible communications

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a large, geographically dispersed or non-desk-based workforce
  • Experience using intranet analytics and reporting tools
  • Experience supporting organisational change and engagement programmes
